October 23, 2009. In a bid to reward and enhance professionalism, the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS) has announced an IT merit award for deserving organisations, individuals and corporate bodies in Nigeria scheduled to hold on December 15, 2009 at Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.
Speaking on the need for the institution of this new award, the President, NCS, Charles Uwadia, said “Over the years, a number of organizations had in the past awarded Certificate of Computer Excellence to individuals, corporate Non-Governmental Organization and other eminent Nigerians without recourse to the NCS, the umbrella Organization of all computer professionals in Nigeria.”
Uwadia added that “It is our determination in the NCS to carry this award out now and for the first time to also, conduct a public survey by requesting Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to vote via the SMS and provide an unbiased verdict on who or which individual or organisation best deserve to be honoured.”
According to him, the first edition of the award would include categories such as: Computer Organisation of the Year, Software Provider in Human Resources (HR) Service of the Year, IT-Driven Bank of the Year, Payment Solution Provider of the Year, Best IT Media Reporter of the Year, Best IT airline of the Year as well as Best Telecoms company of the year.
He noted that there would be laid down criteria that would be used in determining the winners of the awards as this would be carried out in conjunction with a consulting firm known to have expertise in these kinds of award.
The sponsorship of the awards he noted are categorised as Gold, Silver and Bronze as organisations and individuals willing to sponsor the event would derive benefits for partaking in the event while the Gold, Silver, and Bronze sponsorship would be for N5million, N3.5million and N2.5 million respectively.
The benefits for Gold sponsorship includes having the organization’s logo on the NCS website for 12 months, having members’ patronage and the organization’s logo would be placed in the NCS conference proceedings.
The Silver and Bronze benefits include company’s logo on the NCS website for eight and five months respectively, members’ patronage and company logo featuring in the NCS conference proceedings.
He pointed out that NCS objective is to allow selection process to be IT driven by opinion poll through SMS medium, Newspapers and NCS website, while adding that the planning committee would only collate polls and put forth the orders of scores and announce the winner in each category.
