The Minister of Information and Communications, Dora Akunyili has noted with dismay the negative opposition of Nigerians towards the rebrand Nigeria project.

Akunyili said on Saturday in Lagos, during a media luncheon that one of the greatest challenges of the project was this unreliability from Nigerians.

The National Rebranding project was flagged off on February 9, 2009 in Abuja by the Minister of Information and Communications.

The national launch of the project took place on March 17, 2009 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The project is a systematic response to address the Nigeria’s image problem.

It seeks to bring about attitudinal change, reorientation, revive our cultural values and to instil a renewed spirit of patriotism and hope in all Nigerians.

She called on those Nigerians that lack faith in the country to have change of hearts and start projecting the country positively.

``We have to believe in our country and ourselves, we should not allow other countries to continue to criminalise us,'' she said.

She said that people should stop thinking that the project is a money making venture, as the project was meant for the good of the nation.

She however noted that people are opposing the project because of what is happening in the country's economy.

The Minister then said that such should not discourage them as everybody, including the leaders and the led should be rebranded.
