Akunyili commends eight year old pupil for Microsoft certifications

The giant stride in the Nigerian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is a further attestation that there is hope for this country,

The Minister of Information and Communications, Dora Akunyili made the observation recently when the Chief Executive Officer of New Horizon, Tim Akano led a delegation of three young Nigerian children, who are certified Microsoft and ICT experts paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Akunyili who appreciated the intellectual capacity and unparalleled ICT skills acquired by eight year old Favour Nwaiwu of Royal Family Academy, Abuja, Oseremen Davidson and Alade Oluwaseun of Deroges Private Academy, Lagos stated that Nigeria has all it takes to be great in terms of human capital resources that can compete favourably with the developed nations of the world.

She mentioned that the achievement of these highly talented children is a manifestation of what Nigerians can do, adding that the administration of Goodluck Jonathan would continue to promote and support the development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

She commended Nwaiwu for designing a web site- “Rebranded NIGERIANS” and pledged that the Ministry will do everything possible to encourage her and other young Nigerians so that the country can produce 50,000 young ICT Experts yearly.

She equally commended Davidson and Shittu of Derogos Private Academy who produced a computer named DASH and won international awards for theier ingenuity in technological development.

Akunyili also thanked Akano, and the Principal of Derogos Private Academy for their contributions to the progress of the children and enjoined them to encourage more kids in ICT, while adding these developmental initiatives are visible signs that the rebranding Nigerian project of the Ministry of Information and Communications is recording positive results within and outside the country.

Akano highlighted the developmental initiatives of his organization in identifying training, nurturing and producing highly skilled ICT experts who he said will not be job seekers but wealth creators and employers in the future.

He appreciated the vision, boldness and commitment of the Minister in national development and prayed God to give her good health in the service of the nation.
