Etisalat Stirs Up Entrepreneur Spirit amongst Youths

programme, held at LAUTECH.

A renowned motivational speaker, rated as one of the top 10 public speakers in Nigeria, Niyi Adesanya said that it is necessary that the concept of entrepreneurship be encouraged amongst youths in Nigeria to make them competitive thereby positioning them for optimum productivity in life.

This was made known at an Etisalat Nigeria entrepreneurship programme geared towards empowering the youths and building the spirit of enterprise, held recently at the Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Osun state.

Adesanya urged youths to take a SWOT analysis of themselves which would enable them take analysis and match their competencies, capabilities to the opportunities existing within the environment.
As part of its commitment to drive youth development and empowerment, Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Steve Evans said that beyond being in the business of mobile telecommunications, the company also believes in adding value to the lives of its stakeholders in as many ways as possible.
According to him, “We have done this with offers like the 9jillion Promo which changed the life of an undergraduate, Kizito Egeonu, who won one million dollars. We also recently produced a singing sensation Yeka Onka, another student, with our sponsorship of the Nigerian Idol music reality show, and annually we give scholarships to undergraduates of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer science and Management sciences studying in higher institutions under the Etisalat Scholarship award. So, far over 400 undergraduate have benefitted from the Scheme”.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University, Prof. Adeniyi S, Gbadagesin, commended Etisalat for the initiative, describing it as timely, topical and relevant. He urged the students to take advantage of the programme by putting into practice what they have learnt. He added that the as a result of the initiative, the university will incorporate an entrepreneurship course as part of its curriculum. 
The event also featured a raffle draw which saw a 100-level student, Ogundare Olakunle winning a brand new Hyundai i10 car. Lots of other students also won prizes such as Laptops and blackberry phones. The programme ended with a novelty match and performances from Terry G and Olamide.
