Nigerian Internet Governance Forum (NIGF-2012)

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Communication Technology has announced the Nigerian Internet Governance Forum 2012.

The forum is scheduled to hold at the NICON Luxury International Hotel, Abuja on the 25thof September 2012.

The goal of the event is to provide ‘Harmonization of National Multi-Stakeholders Positions based on the Global IGF 2012 Agenda. The agenda includes; Access & Diversity (AD),  Internet Governance for Development  (IG4D), Security, Openness & Privacy (SOP),  Managing Critical Internet Resource (MCIR), Emerging Issues (EI) and Taking Stock & Way Forward.

The Hon. Minister of Communication Technology would lead other agencies under the Ministry to declare the workshop open, while the Forum would be chaired by Rear Admiral A.A. Madueke (rdt), GCON, Mni, the Chairman Interconnect Clearinghouse Nigeria (ICN).

The theme of the NIGF 2012 is in alignment with the Theme of the Global IGF 2012:‘Internet Governance for Sustainable Human, Economic and Social Development.

The one-day Preparatory National Stakeholders’ Forum calls for contributions from various stakeholders such as government, regulators, professional bodies, civil societies, academia, youths and women, operators, security and law enforcement agencies, law makers, international organizations, multilateral development partners, and the general public towards facilitating domestic inputs into the forthcoming Global Internet Governance Forum 2012 taking place at Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, November 6 – 9, 2012.
